My jeans feel tight and uncomfortable... My friends bitch they're too big. What am I missing?

I have all my jeans in the same size. They feel comfortable enough, although sometimes I feel like they're way too tight. So the reaction of my friends is confusing:

They all bitch and complain that my jeans are "too big" and it's embarrassing because of them being so baggy.

Granted, yes, they're a little loose around the legs, but not excessively so. Just comfortably. The waist area feels too tight if anything. They're boot cut, but if I get any size smaller they won't button.

What am I missing? Also, why is my wardrobe always such an issue with my friends...? Jeez.

Make sure that they fit around the waist and are a little loose,
not tight. When trying on jeans/pants check them out in the dressing room mirror: Do they make you look good?
(Slop jeans/pants are out , well fitting jeans with a good booty fit are in with a med straight leg.)
