I started Making Wine at home...?

and i was wondering if being in the light had a positive or negative affect on the yeast and fermentation process

Yeast prefers a cool, dark place. I currently have 3 active carboys in the closet of a bedroom I converted into an office / brewing room. I keep the closet doors shut during the day, keeping the sunlight out. One of the other answerers was half-right when s/he said that beer has to be kept out of the light due to hops getting skunky. He was half-wrong when he said wine doesn't need darkness because it has no hops. If you get wine out of its comfortable temperature zone, it will not ferment as fast and can have off-flavors. Sunlight on a carboy/demijohn can raise the temperature enough to get it out of its comfort zone.

Keep all your brews out of the sun, and preferably in complete darkness.
